We are pleased to announce NEW SOUTH FESTIVAL OF LITERARY ARTS & CARTOONING, a very special project we’ve been working on for some time now.
newsouthfest (follow us!) is a continuation of Foxing's mission. We plan to establish a large-scale books and comics festival for June 2015: a four-day event with two days of festival, bookended by corresponding events like an art show and concert. The festival, taking place on Saturday (6/7) and Sunday (6/8), will feature a book fair with 120-150 exhibitors and cross-disciplinary panels. New South will celebrate independent literature, alternative comics, small presses, and print culture. It will be highly curated, focused, fresh, and irreverent.

Talked with Dan about this loads at SPX. Very exciting. Let’s help them make it happen!

Here’s my haul from SPX. It might look like a lot, but it’s not even half as much as I probably should have picked up.
The only one I’ve read so was Astral Birth Canal, which was really good. I was going to read more on the plane but then I fell asleep. Really pumped for Fight Frogs and Copra and New Comics Four and Bug Boys especially, but also everything else too.
I was able to bring home a copy of my own book FUNGUS, but Johnny Boo Zooms to the Moon totally sold out so I couldn’t even grab a copy for myself. (It wasn’t actually possible to sell out of FUNGUS because we had the entire print run with us thanks to Big Planet Comics being nearby.)
It was so fun premiering two brand new books at the same time. Lots of kids picked up Johnny Boo, lots of grown-ups bought Fungus. (And plenty of grown-ups bought both, actually!)
Three cool comics now shipping (subscribers first!)
When asked to sketch in someone’s convention sketchbook, I sometimes like to make an addition to another artist’s earlier sketch. This weekend at SPX I drew one of my FUNGUS dudes onto a sketch by Farel Dalrymple.
Here’s the real scoop: I’ll actually be at the table the entire time!! LOL
